Job Overview:

As a Quality Control Specialist on our ALT-Text team, you will ensure the accuracy and consistency of alternative text (alt-text) for various documents, including images, diagrams, flowcharts, and mathematical graphs. You will also play a key role in the translation process between English and French, ensuring compliance with PDF/UA, ISO, and WCAG accessibility guidelines. This role involves collaboration with technicians, providing quality control checks before final submission, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our standards and processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and review alt-text for images, diagrams, and other visual elements across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF documents in accordance with PDF/UA, WCAG, and company standards.
  • Conduct quality control checks for alt-text and screen-reading functionality, ensuring accuracy and consistency in both English and French.
  • Ensure regional and client-specific requirements are met for all assigned work.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for improving alt-text standards and quality control processes.
  • Assist with translations between English and French, ensuring proper grammar, terminology, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with ALT-Text and remediation technicians on daily tasks and large team projects.
  • Document all activities in the internal production system, updating supervisors on project progress, potential delays, or other concerns.
  • Contribute to training materials and assist with training sessions for new team members, when required.
  • Assist with internal document translations and video transcription, as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Fluently bilingual in English and French (written and spoken). Additional languages are a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO and PDF-UA standards related to accessibility.
  • Proven experience writing alt-text for various document types (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDFs).
  • Exceptional writing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
  • Comfortable interpreting complex diagrams, logos, mathematical graphs, and flowcharts.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in translation, particularly between English and French, is an asset.
  • A background in creative or technical writing is highly valued.

Hiring Process

As part of the hiring process, candidates will complete a translation exercise to assess their ability to translate content between English and French and ensure quality and consistency in both languages.
